The Rabbit Lake Library nominated Donna German for the Artist of the Year award, which is presented annually by Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation.
German was honoured at a volunteer awards banquet, held in the Neilburg Community Hall April 24.
German and her husband moved to an acreage near Rabbit Lake in 2008. She soon became an active patron of the library and it was through this introduction the Drop-In Winter Art Program for children became a reality for the library, with German as both the leader and instructor. The program is designed for children from age six through 12, with the group meeting, on average, three Wednesdays per month.
There are from four to nine children in attendance each time the group meets. During eachsession the children receive an hour long art lesson.
In German's own words she "dabbles in watercolours, acrylics, oil rouging and scratch art." She volunteers her time, both in preparation for the regular sessions and as the instructor.
She is also an active member of the local library board and capably assists in the Winter Quilting Program. German has given her time and talent to improve the lives of youth in her community.
