Wakaw RCMP lay charges in ATV rollover death

On July 4, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Wakaw RCMP Detachment were called to a rollover of a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle on a rural property.

On July 4, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Wakaw RCMP Detachment were called to a rollover of a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle on a rural property.

Three occupants were riding in the vehicle when the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle. None of the occupants were wearing a helmet.

A 51-year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS. The 57-year-old female passenger did not sustain any injury. The driver, a 48-year-old male, also did not sustain any injury. 

Wakaw RCMP received assistance in the investigation from the Prince Albert RCMP Detachment, Prince Albert Traffic Services, Wakaw EMS, Wakaw/Hoodoo Fire and Rescue, an RCMP Reconstructionist and Gateway Regional Victim Services. 

Patrick Strong of Saskatoon was arrested on scene and has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and for refusing to provide a breath sample. Strong is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Aug. 11.
