THE BATTLEFORDS— As we reach the back end of July, it’s time to get out and explore what North Battleford and the surrounding area have to offer.

Country Cowboy Gospel Music

The first annual country cowboy gospel music presentation takes place on July 23 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 9 (262-22nd St. W.) in Battleford. Doors will open at 1 p.m., with admission by donation. Door prizes and a silent auction will also be on site. Come down and hear what country cowboy gospel is all about. Dog Patch Music Festival

From July 22 to 24, head on to Whelan to take in the three-day event at Loon Lake. From delicious food, to displays of history from the area, to playgrounds for the kids, to a sand volleyball court, to of course the music, there’s something here for everyone. Eighth Annual Pasta Supper

The Meota Lakeshore Lions are putting on their annual pasta supper at the Community Complex on July 16. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 each. Call 306-441-8801 for more details.

Global Conferences: Vibrant Neighbourhoods - North Battleford edition

The Don Ross Centre will play host to the Battlefords chapter of a series of worldwide conferences for neighbours to gather, and to consult on the betterment of their community. The event will take place both on July 23 and July 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the focus being on all adults and youth fully in consultation and dialogue.

Kade Mills Horsemanship and Obstacle Clinic

The event will take place on July 23 and July 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Grandora. The clinic will be focused on body control, with obstacles included should one feel comfortable. The cost is $350 for two days. If you are interested in signing up, text or reply on messenger at 306-717-1561. A non-refundable deposit of $200 will be required.

Prairie Art Road Trip

Take a day trip to west-central Saskatchewan and take in the local artists and galleries of the region. The event will take place on July 23 (weather permitting) or July 24. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will feature trips to venues including Boondocks Flower Farm, Cindy Hoppe Studio and Gallery, Prairie Fire Alpacas, and Arelee Art.

Pride Week

Battlefords Pride Week is Sunday July 17 to Sunday July 24. On July 21, an arts and crafts workshop with artist Holly Hildebrand will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lion’s Park gazebo in Battleford. On July 23, the pride parade will take place in North Battleford at 1 p.m. followed by the “Family Circus Day,” which will feature airbrush tattoos, vendors, face painting and entertainment. Singer-songwriter LJ Tyson will be the feature headliner starting at 6 p.m. The last day of Pride Week will include a YXE Collective Drag Show called “The Prairie Invasion Tour,” which will take place at the Cadet Hall building, just off of Territorial drive. An all-ages show will be at 7 p.m., followed by an 18-plus show at 9 p.m.

Spray Parks

The Spray Parks at Centennial Park, Kinsmen Park, and Senator Herb Sparrow Park remain open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parks are not supervised, and children must be with an adult.

Sixth Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament

Located on the Vawn School grounds, 12 teams will be competing to bring home the Patty Tallis Cup. There will be beer gardens and concessions on-site, as well as a $500 guaranteed 50/50 jackpot, which is sponsored by Vawn Hotel. There will be bouncy castles (weather-dependent) from noon to 4 p.m., as well as horse wagon rides in the afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. The Troy Wakelin Band and Beer League will be part of the live music at Vawn Hall at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for individuals not in the tournament. The night will also feature fireworks at dusk.

Shoot for the Worlds

This 3D fun shoot will take place at the Archery Club in Battleford from noon to 5 p.m. on July 23. There were will be 20 3D targets to aim for, with fun archery games to follow. Following the event, a brisket supper will be put on at 5 p.m., with the cost of $10 for those 15 and under, and $20 for those 16 and over. The cost for the afternoon fun shoot only is $10 for those 17 and under, and $20 for those 18 and over. There will be raffle prizes and a 50/50 available, with the grand prize being a three-day and three-night fishing trip to Churchill Lake. Money raised will help Jay Djukic and Blair St. Amant travel to Italy to the Shoot Worlds 3D Archery Championship this coming September. To RSVP, email [email protected] or [email protected]

The Battlefords Proms

Part three sees Cole Knutson in a duo piano performance alongside Jaya Hoy, who performed last weekend as well. Hoy, North Battleford born and raised, is Knutson’s former piano instructor. The recital takes place on Saturday July 23 at 3 p.m. at Third Avenue United Church.
