A woman arrested by the Saskatoon Police Guns and Gangs Unit who faces 28 firearm-related offences, failed to appear in court.
Corey Amber Paddy, 26, didn’t appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court in November and a bench warrant to hold was issued until Dec. 23. A bench warrant to hold is issued when the accused doesn’t appear in court and fails to remain in contact with his/her lawyer.
Paddy was arrested on April 9 when police responded to a disturbance in the 2400 block of Arlington Avenue after they had reports that a man was banging on windows and doors of a home in the area. Police also arrested Brett Karol, 29.
The Saskatoon Guns and Gangs Unit became involved in the investigation and searched a residence in the 1000 block of Avenue H North where they found a sawed-off rifle, rifle parts that were broken down, and a money counter.
Police then searched a storage unit in the 3900 block of Wanuskewin Road on April 12 and found five firearms, ammunition and modified firearm parts.
Saskatoon Police say they believe the weapons were acquired, modified and trafficked for use by members of street gangs in Saskatoon.
Karol is facing 80 charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking Methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession of the proceeds of crime. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Jan. 18.
Paddy was released and a bench warrant to hold was issued until Dec. 23, when she is next scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
The Saskatoon Guns and Gangs Unit is dedicated to disrupting and dismantling gangs, and address violence through prevention, intervention and enforcement. The Unit deals with serious habitual offenders and high-risk offenders in conjunction with the Saskatoon Integrated Drug Unit and the Combined Special Forces Enforcement Unit.
