RM OF HOODOO — Work has started on an approximately $589,000 lagoon expansion project in the RM of Hoodoo.
The project will enhance service for the organized hamlets of Cudsaskwa Beach and Balone Beach, along with campgrounds and cabins at Wakaw Lake. As well, it will position the communities for future growth and help protect the environment.
Through the New Building Canada Plan’s Small Communities Fund, the province and federal governments will pay one-third of the cost each – around $196,000 each. The RM will pay for the remaining costs.
“Without this funding the RM of Hoodoo would have had to take on the entire cost of this project,” said Derreck Kolla, the RM’s reeve. “Ratepayers get the benefits of an improved lagoon today and well into the future at a reduced amount due to cost sharing.”
Construction on the project began recently. The project includes constructing a new wastewater evaporation cell, along with related works. The project is targeted to be fully operational by late 2019, pending weather and contractor progress.
