Battleford Barons win Wade Belak Memorial Tournament

The Battleford Barons AA Atom Tier 1 team hosted the Wade Belak Memorial hockey tournament over the weekend, winning the championship.

The Battleford Barons AA Atom Tier 1 team hosted the Wade Belak Memorial hockey tournament over the weekend, winning the championship.

Other teams taking part included Lloydminster KFC, Lloydminster Fort Garry, Camrose Vikings, Kitscoty Rampage, Saskatoon Redwing Icewolves, Prince Albert Snipers and the Saskatoon Rampage.

The Barons rolled over the competition throughout the weekend, outscoring opponents by a combined 44-13 margin.

Friday they downed Lloydminster KFC 8-2 before beating the Saskatoon Rampage10-2 Saturday morning and Kitscoty 16-3 Saturday afternoon to advance to the A finals.

In the finals, the offensive ways of the Barons continued, as they defeated the Saskatoon Redwing Icewolves 9-4 to win the memorial trophy.

The other finals saw Camrose defeat Kitscoty 8-5 in the B final, Lloydminster Fort Garry shut out the Saskatoon Rampage 9-0 in the C final and the Prince Albert Snipers clip Lloydminster KFC 7-6 in overtime in the D final.

This was the second year the memorial tournament took place, and the second time the Battleford Barons have won.
