It's been a tough season so far, but one local baseball team is hoping things get better.

The Humboldt Dodgers AAA Midget baseball team hasn't had much luck getting games in this season with the continual rain. According to coach Roger Gerwing, the team has about five games that need to be rescheduled. The team had over a month where they didn't play at all, but they did play a doubleheader on the weekend.

The games, played in Swift Current, saw Humboldt win 11-5 and 12-8.

"Dean Jaeb pitched very good in the first game and Tyler Blair pitched solid relief," said Gerwing. "Jordan Gerwing was solid in the second game to get the win."

Those victories bring Humboldt's record to 3-5-4, close to the .500 mark that was the team's goal at the beginning of the season, Gerwing said. The team was scheduled to play 24 games over the course of the season, but he expects they will only get 21 or 22 of those games played.

Right now, the team can't even play on their own diamond, which is embarrassing, he said. They played their last four home games in Melfort, the only place they could get a diamond.

The team now has home games set for July 5 at 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. against Yorkton; on July 6 against the Saskatoon Cubs at 6:15 p.m.; and at 6:15 p.m. on July 15 against the Saskatoon Diamondbacks.

Gerwing is really hoping the diamond in Humboldt will be back in use then and that the rain stays away.
