If the picture of the Lake Lenore Senior Girls' soccer team is full of smiling faces, it may be because they came away with a gold medal from the 2012 SHSAA 1A Soccer Girls' Provincial Championship. The tournament was hosted by Outlook High School, October 26 and 27 and brought together four teams to compete for the provincial title. "We played Valley Christian Academy on Friday at noon, and it was 3-0 for us," the team's manager, Ralph Viczko said. "The girls took a really early commanding lead, and they just never really looked back."Viczko said the girls played a very strong defence, and didn't give the opposing team many chances for shots on goal in their first game of the tournament. The goals for Lake Lenore were scored by Lisa Prodahl, Chloe Gerwing and Payton Voz."The girls played fantastically," confirmed Viczko. "And Outlook did such a fantastic job of preparing the field, given the weather conditions earlier in the week."Their win on Friday meant the girls advanced to the gold medal final, played the next day at 2 p.m. Lake Lenore were up against Rosthern Junior College (RJC), who had defeated Outlook 2-1 on Friday. In this game, Lake Lenore's offence kept pressure on RJC's defence for the first half, scoring two unanswered goals. In the second half, Lake Lenore continued their domination, however RJC had more shots on goal, and capitalized in the last five minutes with a corner kick to Paradise McDaniel who scored their goal. The final score of the game was Lake Lenore 3, RJC 1. The goals were scored for Lake Lenore by Payton Voz (2), and Lisa Prodahl (1).Viczko, who is also the principal at Lake Lenore School, credits the team's coach, Andre Kruger, for the time and hard work he has put in ever since he has been the girls' coach."He's been their soccer coach for years," Viczko said. "He does just a phenomenal job with the girls."The end results of the provincial championship were: gold - Lake Lenore; silver - Rosthern Junior College; bronze - Valley Christian Academy.
