Melfort Mustangs turn slow start into 6-2 win

MELFORT — A slow start turned into a strong finish for the Melfort Mustangs. The Mustangs defeated the Estevan Bruins in Game 1 of the semifinals 6-2.

MELFORT — A slow start turned into a strong finish for the Melfort Mustangs.

The Mustangs defeated the Estevan Bruins in Game 1 of the semifinals 6-2.

Turner Ripplinger of the Bruins scored the first goal in the first period, followed by a goal from the Bruins' Bryce Platt early in the second.

Then the floodgates opened for the Mustangs. In the second period, three goals were scored by Kenzie Arnold, while one was scored by Zach Anderson.

The Mustangs capped off the night with two goals by Carson Albrecht.

Noah Giesbrecht of the Mustangs stopped 25 out of 27 shots, while his opposite number Grant Boldt stopped 27 out of 32.
