Midget Stars remain winless

October will be a month the Battlefords Midget Stars will hope to quickly put behind them. The Stars went 0-9 during the month and fall to 0-11-0-0 on the season after losing 8-2 in Regina and 8-3 in Wilcox to the Notre Dame Hounds.

October will be a month the Battlefords Midget Stars will hope to quickly put behind them.

The Stars went 0-9 during the month and fall to 0-11-0-0 on the season after losing 8-2 in Regina and 8-3 in Wilcox to the Notre Dame Hounds.

Saturday in Regina, Blair Mahon was saddled with the loss, but did face 50 shots in the game and leads the league in with the most shots against - 330 in eight games.

The Stars held a 2-1 lead with nearly five minutes left in the second period. It appeared the shots against finally caught up with the Stars.

Regan Yew and Jordan Braun were the goal scorers for the Stars. Yew scored his second of the season on the power play from twin brother Robin Yew and Austin Duzan. Braun's goal was his second of the season, assisted by Drew Soderberg.

Regina was 3/16 on the power play while the Stars were 1/9.

Sunday against the Hounds, the Stars led 3-2 after 40 minutes but couldn't hold off the Hounds and allowed six third-period goals.

After trailing 2-0, the Stars drew within a goal when Tyson Empey scored shorthanded at the end of the first period.

In the second, Robin Yew scored his first of the season from Brock Weston on a power play.

The Stars' power play struck again in the second, as Empey scored his third of the season from Robin Yew.

In the third period, the Hounds out shot the Stars 24-4 and scored six times on Nigel Detbrenner-Rempel to earn the win. The Stars took five minor penalties in the third period and were shorthanded 12 times all game allowing four Notre Dame power play goals.

The Stars were two for 13 with the man advantage.

Next for the Stars will be a road trip to Prince Albert Thursday and trip to Swift Current Saturday and Sunday.
