Oh, the clank of horseshoes. Spring must be here!

The Battlefords Horseshoe Club have begun their season of play this week and are looking forward to an exciting season starting with the first tournament of the season at Manitou Beach on May 18.

The following Saturday they will host their regular annual tournament in North Battleford with players coming from around the province.

They are also excited that the Saskatchewan Horseshoe Association, with which they are affiliated, is hosting the 2013 Western Classic Horseshoe Championship in North Battleford on June 29 and 30, bringing in competitors from across western Canada. This is the first time this event has been held in North Battleford and the Battlefords Horseshoe Club is eager to make it a wonderful event. Many local players will be competing, including the club's own Howard Weitzel (pictured throwing shoes at 91 years of age), Canadian Champion Colin Finnie from Keaston, and other provinial champions from across the west.

This is an opportunity for spectators to come out and see what horseshoes are all about. There is no charge and everyone is welcome.
