SMAAAHL awards presented to Stars

Prior to the Battlefords Stars 4-1 win Saturday afternoon over the Prince Albert Mintos in game three of their SMAAAHL semifinal series, league vice-president Scott Owens presented league awards to the team.

Stars captain Josh Bly was named the SMAAAHL's most valuable player.

Prior to the Battlefords Stars 4-1 win Saturday afternoon over the Prince Albert Mintos in game three of their SMAAAHL semifinal series, league vice-president Scott Owens presented league awards to the team.

Josh Bly was named the league's most valuable player. In 41 games played this season, Bly registered 21 goals and 44 assists.

Spencer Bast earned the Chuck Herriot Scholarship. The award is presented for sportsmanship, dedication and commitment to the game of hockey.

Head coach Martin Smith was presented with the coach of the year award. He led the Stars to a 29-7-5-3 record, good for second in the league.

The Stars swept the Mintos to reach the league final. They await the winner of the series between the Notre Dame Argos and the Regina Pat Canadians.
