Swimming delivers for Saskatoon in Saskatchewan Summer Games

SASKATOON — Saskatoon swimmers collected 40 of the 60 medals for Saskatoon on the third day of the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games on July 24, Wednesday, in Lloydminster.

As of 8:47 a.m., Thursday, July 25, Saskatoon remains second in the medal standings, with 17 gold, 28 silver, and 15 bronze. Regina is expected to rule the medal standings with 73 medals—36 gold, 13 silver, and 17 bronze.

Saskatoon swimmers finished with nine gold, 21 silver and 13 bronze, while Queen City won big in the pool with 17 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze.

Carson Sereda-Wosminity and Landon Kennedy led the local swimming team, combining for 11 individual medals. Wosminity had three gold and two silver, while Kennedy had two gold, three silver, and one bronze.

Samantha Aubrey Rennenberg won gold in Archery’s Compound Female division at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds, while Regina’s Payton Sellinger settled for silver. Payton Harris of Prairie Central rounded up the medalists as the Osler archer clinched the bronze.

Saskatoon triumphed in male soccer after beating Parkland Valley on penalties, 6-5. The game ended 1-1. South East beat Regina, 3-2, for bronze.

After three days of competition at the VLA Soccer Pitches, Saskatoon was undefeated, topping Group A with victories over North, 7-0, and Southeast, 3-1.

Winona McClean and Landon Kennedy (Recurve Female and Male) grabbed a silver each, while Luke William Renenberg had a bronze in the Compound Male event for Saskatoon.

Theo Holmstrom and River Michael Kloeble finished with a silver in the Canoe/Kayak K-2 500m male event at Killarney Lake, while Ingrid Broten and Rinn Keith James Tallon each went home with bronze medals in the Female and Male 1500m races.

Tennis added two gold to Saskatoon's medal haul late Wednesday at the Bud Miller Park Tennis Court, with Ashvik Ashish Patel bouncing back from an opening set loss in beating Regina's Kaiden Ear Gui, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 while the doubles pair of Ty Cory and William Jin dominated the South West duo of Mason David and Carter ANton Lichtenwald,  6-0, 6-4.

Other Saskatoon medalists' were Sarah Henderson (silver in female individual golf), Maragrita Ter-Grigoryan (silver in female singles tennis), Nicole Marie Duggan and Mehak Garg (silver in female tennis doubles), Jack Maharaj (bronze in male golf individual play) and the mixed doubles tennis pair of Isaiah Dalton and April Gao (bronze).

Athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, female soccer, and triathlon are the remaining events to be contested before the Saskatchewan Summer Games conclude on Saturday, July 27.
