Dog owners responsibility

Dear Editor

As a result of what could have been a tragic incident this past weekend, I felt a need for public awareness.

Had it not been for the heroic actions of a passing driver, the attack on myself and my small dog could have ended tragically. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the driver of the truck who stopped to help. Not everyone would have been so brave.

In the past week, there have been several reports of many stray dogs roaming the streets of Battleford.

I'm sure people have their own reasons for owning certain large breed dogs, those traditionally known for being "vicious." Whether it be for protection, to look tough or whatever, I would think an added responsibility comes with owning such an animal. The responsibility would be to keep the dog within the confines of your own property and to make sure that no innocent people are hurt as a result of this dog being on the loose.

The responsibility lies with the owner for a dog's behaviour, not with the dog.
