Peewee Sharks are golden hosts

The Battleford Peewee Sharks can't be captured and in turn captured the championship of their home tournament on the weekend. Saturday, the Sharks led the tournament off with a convincing 6-0 win over Tisdale.

The Battlefords Peewee Sharks were in tough on the week, as they had to beat the Lloydminster G-Force twice and did by 2-1 and 4-2 scores.

The Battleford Peewee Sharks can't be captured and in turn captured the championship of their home tournament on the weekend.

Saturday, the Sharks led the tournament off with a convincing 6-0 win over Tisdale. Leading the scoring was Melina Johnston with two goals and an assist while Caylin Edwards had a goal and two assists and Mishele Tady added a goal and an assist in the game.

With the win, the Sharks advanced to the A-side semi final where they took on the Lloydminster G-Force. The won in exciting fashion with a 2-1 win in a shootout.Edwards was the only goalscorer for the Sharks in regulation time and it was Misty Bird scoring the only goal in the three-player shootout, as she ripped a shot over the shoulder of the Lloydminster goalie. Matheson Colliar put in her best effort of the year and was tested regularly by the G-Force.

After dropping to the bottom bracket, Lloydminster emerged to play the Sharks in the tournament final. In a hard-fought 4-2 win, the Sharks were crowned tournament champions, as Edwards scored all four goals.

Other teams at the two-day tournament at Don Ross Arena included Saskatoon Comet Strom and the Saskatoon Comet Force, who won the consolation final over Tisdale.

The next East Central Alberta Female Hockey League action for the Sharks is Saturday when they continue their rivalry with the G- Force and travel to Lloydminster. Sunday, they play host to the Lloydminster Wizard Wells at 11:45 a.m. at the Battleford Arena.
