PRINCE ALBERT - The Prince Albert Police Service says it was busy throughout the evening on New Year’s Eve and into the morning of New Year’s Day responding to a total of 77 calls for service resulting in 13 arrests.
Those calls included 30 disturbances, six welfare checks, five driving impaired, five assist ambulance, four reports of impaired driving, four evictions, three false 911 calls, three information calls, and two assault calls.
PAPS also reports that officers were able to remove a sawed-off firearm from Prince Albert streets as a result of a New Year’s Eve check stop.
During the check stop conducted alongside MADD Prince Albert, a male driver blew a warning during an alcohol screening test. Officers asked the male to exit the vehicle and while doing so, observed a bottle of alcohol on the passenger side of the vehicle. Officers learned the male’s license had been previously suspended and he was unauthorized to be operating a motor vehicle.
The male was arrested and upon further search of his vehicle, ammunition, and a firearm were located. As a result, the 31-year-old man is facing numerous weapons and firearms charges, as well as being in possession of a controlled substance (cocaine and methamphetamine).
A different male driver going through a PA Police check stop also blew a warning on an alcohol screening test. Officers also observed open alcohol in the vehicle. While removing the male from the vehicle, officers observed what appeared to be a firearm behind one of the rear occupants of the vehicle. All four occupants were arrested at the scene. The firearm was seized by police.
As a result, a 26-year-old man is facing multiple firearms charges, as well as failure to comply with an undertaking.
Seven impaired drivers were taken off Prince Albert roads throughout the night.
The Prince Albert Police Service also adds it would like to thank members of the public for being diligent as the community deals with slippery road conditions. “Your mindful driving is helping reduce accidents in our community,” states Wednesday’s release.
