Security guard stabbed in latest assault in Prince Albert

PRINCE ALBERT - The Prince Albert Police Service has arrested and charged a 53-year-old man with aggravated assault after responding to a theft in progress Tuesday evening.

On Jan. 7 at approximately 6 p.m., police were called to the 2900 block of 2nd Avenue West for a report of a theft in progress where car keys had been stolen.

The suspects were gone when police arrived.

While continuing to investigate, officers learned a security guard had been stabbed.

Further investigation revealed that two females and one male were being asked to leave the building when it is believed the victim’s keys were allegedly stolen.

Security continued to follow the suspects when an altercation occurred and a security guard was allegedly stabbed by the male suspect.

A male matching the description of the suspect was located shortly after where he was arrested without further incident.

Upon a further search, a knife was located and seized.

The 24-year-old male victim was treated by paramedics and transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing.

As a result, a 53-year-old man is facing charges relating to aggravated assault. He made his first court appearance on Jan. 8.
