REGINA — Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s honour ceremonies recognize the hard work, dedication and academic achievements of our Indigenous students.
Presented by SaskTel, this year's theme was duhú noweni noweba hó?a, which means our time to shine in Dene. It embodies the spirit of empowerment and recognition for the efforts and successes of Indigenous students.
Sask Polytech has celebrated Indigenous students with annual honour ceremonies for 35 years.
“Each year, we witness the incredible perseverance and achievements of our Indigenous students. These ceremonies are our way of honouring their academic journeys and the bright futures they are creating for themselves,” says Deanna Kematch, Sask Polytech’s wītōkamāhtōtān Indigenous Student Success director. “Thank you to our sponsor, SaskTel. Your investment in our Indigenous students makes these celebrations possible.”

Honour ceremonies are held in person on each main campus and include a meal, entertainment and presentations to students. Local dignitaries, resident campus Elders and Sask Polytech leadership attend to recognize and commemorate the accomplishments of participating Indigenous students. All Indigenous students and their families and friends were welcome to attend, as well as Elders and other members from the student's home communities.
“As the proud presenting sponsor of Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s 2025 Indigenous Students’ Honour Ceremonies, SaskTel is committed to supporting the next generation of Saskatchewan leaders in achieving their academic goals,” said Jeremy Harrison, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “On behalf of SaskTel and the Government of Saskatchewan, I'd like to extend sincere congratulations to all the students who are being recognized at this year's event. Your persistent determination is truly admirable, and I hope you are all proud of the success you’ve earned. Congratulations once again and may your remarkable dedication to creating bright futures for yourselves continue to inspire and uplift those around you.”
Through honour ceremonies, Sask Polytech demonstrates a deep commitment to supporting and uplifting Indigenous students and to miyo wâhkôhtowin (good relationships). Sask Polytech strives to provide a place of belonging where all students can feel welcomed, inspired and empowered.
