SASKATOON—An individual was transported to hospital as the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a fire in the 200 block of Vancouver Avenue North. It was unknown if the individual was a civilian or a firefighter, as the SFD did not provide additional information.

The incident was reported at 11:09 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The first arriving fire crews saw flames coming from the structure, and immediately, the Incident Commander assigned tactical duties where firefighters braved extreme cold weather.

Despite -30 windchill conditions, fire crews advanced hose lines to apply water to the structure’s interior. At the same time, another team searched the premises to determine whether all occupants had evacuated in time. However, the ambulance service transported an individual to the hospital.

The fire was brought under control and completely extinguished, with fire crews using positive pressure ventilation to remove any lingering smoke and toxins from the building.

Once it was safe, the scene was turned over to a fire investigator, who examined it to identify the cause, origin, and damage estimate. More information will be released as it becomes available.
