SASKATOON - A man has been arrested following an assault on a police officer in Saskatoon.
At around 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 17, police were called to the 400 block of Rogers Court for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.
The first arriving officer entered the residence and observed an agitated man on the second-floor landing.
The man refused to comply with the officer’s verbal commands, and when the officer attempted to arrest him, a physical struggle ensued for several minutes.
During the struggle, a police-issued radio, body-worn camera, and carbine magazine were ripped from the officer’s ballistic vest and attempts were made to push the officer over a railing down to the main floor of the residence.
Following the arrival of three additional officers and multiple CEW deployments, the man was taken into police custody. It is believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant at the time.
As a result, the 40-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with committing an assault endangering the life of a police officer.
