SASKATOON—Saskatoon Fire Department crews were awakened early Friday, Dec. 13, to respond to a structure fire in the 300 block of Avenue D South. The incident, involving a detached garage, was reported at 6:10 a.m.
This marks the fifth garage fire in the last three months, including a suspicious blaze in the 1500 block of Avenue E North in Mayfair on Oct. 25, which also involved an adjacent structure across Avenue F North. It is alsothe 10th garage fire since July.
In Friday’s incident, heavy smoke from the rear detached garage greeted the first crews on the scene. They immediately advanced hose lines to douse the fire from the structure’s exterior. While one team worked to control the blaze, another searched the premises to check for any occupants.
The search confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated. Once the fire was fully extinguished, crews set up large fans to remove lingering smoke and toxins from the area.
No civilians or firefighters were injured. The scene was turned over to a fire investigator to determine the cause, origin, and damage estimate.
