Verda Savostianik was named Most Outstanding Performer of the Unity Music Festival, winning the prize sponsored by the Unity Garagemen’s Association. Kathy Copeland and Marilyn Del Frari tied for best performance of the final night. A total of 246 piano students, 36 vocal students, 15 school groups and two choirs appeared before the adjudicators during festival week.

The usual list of admissions to and discharges from the Wilkie Union Hospital over the previous week was published in The Wilkie Press, with patients being from Wilkie, Landis, Prelate and Leipzig.

The Unity Miners held their awards night, with Brent Pool being named best defenceman, Vince Lisch most improved, Todd Duffin top rookie and most sportsmanlike, Brent Salzl best defensive forward, Curtis McLean most popular, Devon Spenser and Martin Smith co-MVPs, Scott Purcell unsung hero and Keith Heitt most dedicated.

A minor hockey skills competition was held at Wilkie Farmers Day, with events including fastest skater, shot accuracy and hardest shot for the different age groups. In the initiation group, Tristen Huber and Allison Cey were the fastest skaters. Midgets Derek Keller and Bobby Bachman had the hardest shots, 132 and 129 kilometres an hour, respectively.

The Wilkie Bantam Outlaws, coached by Blair Sittler and Les McConnell won the Highway 14 League championships, beating the Rosetown Red Wings 7-6 in a two-game total-goal series.
