UNITY — The 11U Unity Cardinals will play host to an eight-team event in the Baseball Saskatchewan AA, Tier 2 category of provincial championships taking place July 15 to 17.
Event hosts have been organizing the weekend that includes a multitude of volunteers to help with all the duties at the diamonds.
Coach, Graeme Gieni, says the team is made up of primarily third-year players with a seasoning of second-year players.
Teams that are coming to compete are the Esterhazy Cyclones, Yorkton Cardinals, Muenster Red Sox, Sask. Five Giant Bombers, Saskatoon Brave Bandits, Maidstone Lakers and Meadow Lake Sox.
A second Unity 11U team will be travelling to Shellbrook for their provincial championships. The two Unity 11U provincial Cardinals baseball teams were selected from tryouts from three 11U league teams.
Hosting at home provides the players the comfort of their own homes and beds for the weekend free from travel and hotel distractions. Home teams also appreciate the added support of friends, family and ball fans adding energy for the team’s drive to win a provincial title.
