UNITY — Unity's Kin Park has been a mainstay family and children's recreational area for many years. The Kin Club of Unity have decided it's time for some upgrades and they looked to the community for their fundraising efforts as well as helping them brainstorm on potential additions.
Kin Club members came out in full force holding a fundraising barbecue on June 28 to help fund future ideas for then park. In addition to serving up burgers, the club had a ballot box set up for ideas for future development.
The Kin Club set up two well-received non-permanent options at the park this year including a sled shed in winter and a sand shed for summer, wherein park users can borrow items for use in that season and return them to the storage shed on site at the park. Kin members said both options were well used and respected and they want to install something more permanent for these play options.
Kin Club members appreciated the input from residents and will come up with a plan. A splash park was the most popular option voted on by attendees.
Kurt Elder, Kin Club member, says, “Our club are the sponsors of this park and we have been throwing around ideas on updating this children’s and family play centre. Once we present the ideas to the town, they have the final say in what does or does not go forth.”
A more affordable zip line or gazebo option could be doable in an earlier time frame however Elder says the spray park would certainly be more of something on the horizon as there would be research to be done before seeking the town’s approval and it would involve several hundreds of thousands to implement.
Elder also adds that community members can send a message to the Kin Club Facebook page for new additions they would like to see at this park as the Kin Club is enthusiastic about upgrading the facility.
Kin Park updates and planning will be revisited with the club after the summer break.
The club also says they were very happy with the barbecue event as they sold over 250 burgers, helping start the fundraising campaign for Kin Park improvements.
