UNITY – Baseball fans will be in for a treat once again this year as Unity’s Minor Ball Association won the bid to host the U18 Provincial tournament, slated for July 26 to 28.
UMB president, Regan L’Heureux, said seven additional teams will be visiting the community for the tournament.
“Hosting a provincial event helps bring people into our community and we get the opportunity to play in our nice ballpark,” said L’Heureux.
This is not the first time the U18 has played host as they were the host for the Tier 4 event last year, where the team lost in the semi-finals and is looking forward to redeeming themselves.
“This year’s U18 team is a good group of athletes who will be one of the favourites at this year’s championships,” added L’Heureux.
With this being the only provincial tournament being held in the community, there is plenty of work to be done.
“We will have to prepare the Credit Union diamond by moving the portable fence back,” said L’Heureux.
For anyone interested in helping out while taking in the excitement of the tournament is encouraged to contact the minor ball association by emailing them at [email protected].
