The monthly sitting of Unity Circuit Court was held at the Unity Legion Hall, where Logan Sieben of Macklin entered a guilty plea to the charge of arson.

UNITY— Logan Sieben, 25, of Macklin was slated to be back on the docket for Unity Provincial Court, Jan. 20, where the Honourable Judge B. Bauer presided.

Both Sieben and his lawyer did not appear in person, but were present by phone, where he pled guilty to the charge of arson. The other two charges, one count of arson with intent to defraud and one count of theft under $5,000, as well as further proceedings will be adjourned until March 17.

Sieben, who was a member of the Macklin Fire and Rescue, was arrested and charged by Unity RCMP in late August 2024 in connection to a string of hay bale fires in the Macklin and Unity area.

Among those attending the Unity circuit court were members of the Macklin Fire and Rescue team, including Fire Chief Justin Bast.
