UNITY — Unity was a hot destination over the March 1 and 2 weekend, with various sporting events held throughout the community. At the Unity Curling Club, six senior mixed curling teams and two doubles teams battled it out on the ice for a spot at provincials, which will be hosted again by Unity Composite High School on March 7 and 8.

UCHS had two teams in the tournament; team Unity 1 was made up of skip Keaton Knorr, third Jordis Zunti, second Mateo Rutley, lead Wyatt Tiffin and alternate Ariana Welsch, while team Unity 2 included skip Tate Pool, third Hunter Ireland, second Brooke Bartley and lead Ryland Morin. Also attending regionals was Wilkie’s McLurg High School team, with skip Cruz Sittler, third Karlee Cey, second Emerson Cey, lead Lucas Stewart and alternates Jazen Sittler and Brynlee Leinenweber.

After both Unity teams won their first games against Lloydminster and Saskatoon’s Tommy Douglas in the A event, Unity 2 moved to the B event after losing to the McLurg rink. Unity 1 continued their winning streak, first against Turtleford then McLurg, earning their spot at provincials.

Unfortunately, Unity 2 was defeated in their first B event game against Tommy Douglas. The Saskatoon team continued to dominate the B event, winning over Turtleford and McLurg, taking second place in the tournament. Unity 2 and Tommy Douglas will represent at provincials.

Only two teams participated in doubles in a best-of-three match between UCHS and Maidstone. Skip Zane Lanegraff and third Cole Ducherer took first place after the first two games, advancing them to Prince Albert for provincials.
