The Wilkie Brewers opened up their North Saskatchewan River Baseball League season May 25, with a doubleheader on the road.

They started off with a 12-7 win in Lloydminster against the Oil City Ducks, but got schooled in Maidstone where the Standard Hill Lakers almost kept them off the scoreboard. The Lakers eventually took the game 12-1, after a close five innings to start.

The Unity Cardinals, meanwhile, after winning their first two games, went on to win a third, beating the Lashburn Cardinals 9-7, May 21.

On the road the following evening, playing the North Battleford Beavers, the Unity Cards suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 9-3. The Beavers are the NSRBL defending champions and, along with Standard Hill, remain undefeated so far this season.

The two local teams met each other May 30, with Unity in Wilkie, but results were not available for press deadlines. The Brewers host the Lashburn Cardinals June 2, at 2 p.m., while the Cards’ next home game will be June 5 at 6:30 p.m. against the Oil City Ducks.
