WILKIE —Track and field athletes from McLurg have a remarkable weekend at SHSAA provincial track and field competition.
In addition to the solid contingent of 23 athletes qualifying for provincial track and field from McLurg High School in Wilkie, student athletes captured several medals as well as the 2A overall team for the most points by a school.
Battle West Athletics, the district in which McLurg competed from, posted student athletes’ success stories throughout provincial weekend on their Facebook page. A statement on the Battle West Athletics Facebook post of the team win said, “They (McLurg) had themselves a weekend.”
Isaiah Mamer capped off his Grade 12 year with three gold medals in long jump, javelin and triple jump. As well, Isaiah had top eight placings in 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay with two fellow McLurg athletes, Kayden and Carter.
Isaiah was also named co-recipient of the overall aggregate winner with Regina’s Jonathon.
Carter Wakelin was also a gold medalist, winning the junior boys’ javelin event
Emmie Suchan was a bronze medalist in senior girls’ high jump
Julia Egert was a silver medalist in senior girls’ 400m and bronze medalist in 1500m and another bronze in 3000m. She also placed 5th in 800m and was second place in the senior girls’ aggregate points.
Emma Eggert earned bronze in senior girls’ hurdles, fourth in 200m and fifth in 100m
Emma Egert, Emma Kowalchuk and Julia Egert were silver medallists as part of the senior girls’ 4 x 400 m relay team.
Kayden Cey earned 6th place in junior boys’ 4 x 100m relay, fifth place in junior boy’s 400m and was part of the sixth place ribbon with Isaiah Mamer and Carter Cey in the senior boys’ 4 x 400 m relay.
Isaiah Mamer, Carter Cey and Kayden Cey were fourth place winners as part of the senior boys’ 4 x 400 m relay.
Amy Gruber and Emma Egert were fourth place winners with the senior girls’ 4 x 100m relay team.
Amy Gruber earned sixth spot in senior quad.
Isaiah Mamer earned sixth as part of the senior boys’ 4 x 100m relay.
Carter Cey earned seventh spot in senior boys’ hurdles and another seventh in senior boys’ hurdles
