New park in Wilkie nears completion

The newly constructed Second Avenue park in Wilkie is an exciting addition for the community, soon to be completed.

WILKIE — The town of Wilkie was awarded $47,681 earlier in 2022 to develop an under-used downtown green space into a market square.

The funds were received through PrairiesCan grant program investing $12.8M for recreation and community revitalization projects across Saskatchewan.

Recreation Director, Lori Fenrich, says, “The only thing left to install for the park is the picnic tables and a small piece of boardwalk this fall. The solar lights, planters and porta potty will be put in next spring.”

Fenrich says the sod installation that took place the first week of October benefitted from a dozen people who helped manage the task in just over two hours.

Residents say they have enjoyed the progress of the park’s creation and look forward to being able to experience the finished project in 2023.
