Prairie Sky Recovery Centre opens women-only residence

Starlight Cardinal was the inspiration behind the name of the new facility.

LEIPZIG, Sask. — The grand opening for Starlight House, a new women’s only residence for addiction recovery located at the Prairie Sky Recovery Centre, was held Oct. 19.

According to a PSR press release, the centre has helped many women clients who have been victims of domestic violence and abuse over the past 14 years. The impetus or the women-only facility was the fact many women clients have also lost custody of their children through active addiction.

“Randy, Ryan and myself are very proud of the original vision and ongoing work performed by Ardyth Wilson, founder, and carried on by her daughters,” Francis said.

“It’s great to see such a special, rural gem maintained and used for such a great initiative. Leipzig is a very close convergence of our three constituencies, and we collectively share the appreciation and pride for this facility and the folks that operate it.”

Starlight Cardinal, for whom the facility is named, spoke about her experience with addiction and what the house means to her.”
