Provincial medals continue coming for Macklin ball

The medal count continues for Macklin ball

MACKLIN--The weekend of July 15-17 saw Macklin teams earn more provincial medals.  The 13U boys’ baseball captured a silver medal at home, as Macklin played host to both 18U and 13U baseball provincials.  The 18U boys advanced to the semi final but were unable to win their way to provincial final.

The U17 girls’ softball won their way to the provincial final playing none other than rivals, Unity Panthers, with Macklin winning the gold medal and provincial title, with Unity capturing silver.

July 8-10 was a double gold weekend for Macklin 15U and 11U boys in provincial championships.  Macklin Lakers Twilite team also captured gold that same weekend

The U15 Macklin Lakers girls captured a provincial silver medal July 8-10.

13U Macklin Lakers baseball team manager, Leanne Partington said, “It was a great weekend of ball, a lot of local volunteers stepped up to make the tournament run smoothly. The Chamber hosted a free pancake breakfast (for players and coaches) and $5/plate for parents and spectators. They had great attendance. “

Partington adds, “The competition was good, having some very close games. Two tie-breaker games had to be played on Sunday morning to find out who could advance to the semi- finals. Macklin was buzzing with activity with the eight teams from 13U and eight teams from 18U in attendance.”

A Macklin Minor Ball spokesperson said that the great season can be attributed to hard work and dedication of coaches, players, and parents because their commitment to practises and games is what helped them achieve their success.

MMB also affirms they could not host without the tremendous community support from local businesses and volunteers, which are essential to hosting provincial events.

There is one more provincial championship being hosted in Macklin as the senior men’s Lakers will host men’s provincials Aug 5-7, and the team is also currently chasing a repeat provincial title.
