KERROBERT--The summer will be busy for Kerrobert’ s recreation department. The towns Recreation Director, Bobbi Hebron, is excited to share all of the updates from the community of Kerrobert for the summer.
“In the past year Council made the decision to cross train all staff to work in public works, water treatment and recreation, meaning our recreation team has expanded. I’d like to welcome new staff to our team who are key to ensuring that our facilities run efficiently; so welcome to our newest full time staff Alex Parnitsky and Jaimi Pollard; and to our summer students Carter Johnson and Landon Schell who were hired thanks in part to a grant from Canada Summer Jobs. We look forward to improving Kerrobert with you,” says Hebron
At the Kerrobert Fairgrounds, work continues with upgrades and improvements. The town is excited to see the rodeo to return. The community was also grateful for donations of time, equipment and funding that helped with the completion of diamond #3. All ball diamonds in Kerrobert are now with shale for safety and improved playing conditions for users.
The Kerrobert Swimming Pool and Park Program is also into their busy season. The pool ran a bronze medallions course that included seven participants with hopes of developing future lifeguards for the venue. The pool’s Facebook page keeps residents and pool users up to date on the latest news at the pool for their season.
Hebron adds, “So many wonderful things have been happening and we are happy to say that our discipline issues are considerably less than last year which comes as great news to our guards. When our guards are distracted with poor or dangerous behavior, they are not focusing on preventing and responding to water accidents. Although kids are able to visit the pool alone ages 7+ we remind parents that age is not always the deciding factor on how your child will respond to a water emergency. The first line of defense near the water is ALWAYS direct supervision from a parent or supervisor regardless of age. “
Unfortunately, it is not all good news at the pool as the paddling pool is currently without heat due to a part that has been on order for weeks. Staff and contractors discovered the problem when prepping the pool to open and the part was ordered immediately. Hebron says they are at the mercy of the part delivery and there is nothing they can do to speed up the process.
In the meantime, the paddling pool is open, and the temperature depends on the temperatures of the day with a hotter day allowing the pool to warm naturally. To compensate until the part arrives, the town is allowing paddling pool users to use the big pool at paddling pool prices.
The Kerrobert Communities in Bloom program is currently collecting nominations in the Yard Stake Beautification program for the most beautiful yard and business.
The Kerrobert Reservoir has much to offer residents and visitors with its picturesque setting, trout pond and nature trails.
The Kerrobert Memorial Arena has not been idle even though winter is over. The tender is currently open for the arena booth. With the help of summer students and town staff, the intention is to do painting throughout the arena and the community. Painting will continue in the arena stands on several areas that need attention.
The Kerrobert Cultural Center, which encompasses the library, museum, and art gallery, and also home to the town office, has been abuzz with all the excitement that surrounded the newly discovered time capsule opening.
Hebron says, “The Kerrobert Courthouse Restoration Society must be commended for a wonderful event on June 23 with the unveiling of a new sculpture and the opening of the mysterious time capsule. If you were fortunate enough to be there or to watch online, it was historic for our small community. “
The Kerrobert Courtroom Gallery is featuring a combined exhibit for the summer months. Additionally, the items removed from the time capsule will be available for viewing, along with all of the other features the museum has to offer.
The Kerrobert Library offers a variety of programming which includes two book clubs, parent and tot group, summer storybook trails as well as take-and-make kids every Wednesday.
The Kerrobert recreation department are reminding people to mark their calendars for an upcoming, large community event Oct 7-10, Thanksgiving weekend. The event is intended to include football and hockey games, a parade, along with great food including food trucks and local cooks. The weekend will provide committees an opportunity to hold a fundraising event as well as bring residents together in one large gathering to share some food, fun and fellowship. Hebron asks residents to consider inviting family and friends home to join in the celebration as well as holds an option to hold a class reunion.
