UNITY -- Local dancer, Mikaela Hennings, will be taking to the Vic Juba Theatre stage in Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet® on March 7.
Hennings has been dancing for seven years and is a student at Stand Out Dance Collective (SODC). Owner and dance instructor, Courtney Smith, has been teaching the 11-year-old for the past four years. Currently, Hennings is training in a variety of dance genres, including ballet.
The opportunity arose for Hennings when her mom, Arisa, came across an advertisement looking for local dancers for the upcoming production.
“Opportunities like these are always great for young dancers. It introduces them to a professional dance environment and is great for them to be able to learn from other highly educated instructors,” said Smith.
Although Hennings has been selected for the production, she will not be cast into a specific role until rehearsals begin.
“Mikaela has been working hard in the studio all year and especially in her ballet classes, which will help her a lot to take on her role in the production,” added Smith.
Hennings is no stranger to the Border City stage, as she has attended competitions at the venue in the past. She is, however, excited to perform for a sold-out crowd.
Parents, Gary and Arisa, are thrilled that their daughter is getting to take on this opportunity.
