SWHL - The Sask West Hockey League (SWHL) has finished up its first round of playoffs, but provincials were finishing and starting for some teams in the league.
To recap from Feb. 11, the Wilkie Outlaws hosted the Unity Miners in game 3 of their best-of-5 series. The home team completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory.
Mike Sittler, Brett Boehm and Derek Keller scored in the first, while Boehm and Brett Schell scored in the second. Brett Vanderveer stopped 36 of 41 shots in the loss, while Curtis Sander stopped all 21 shots for the shutout and the win.
The semi-finals are officially set as the one-seed Hafford Hawks play the four-seed Edam 3 Stars, while the two-seed Wilkie Outlaws play the three-seed Kindersley Klippers in a rematch of last year's SWHL finals.
The Klippers and Outlaws kick off their series on Feb. 22 in Wilkie at 8:30 p.m., while Edam and Hafford fire up their series on Feb. 21 in Hafford at 8 p.m.
Provincials
In the Senior ‘C’ bracket, the Wilkie Outlaws hosted the Eston Ramblers of the Sask Valley Hockey League on Feb. 15, with the Outlaws coming away with a hard-fought 6-5 victory.
In the Senior ‘D’ bracket game, also on Feb. 15, the Edam 3 Stars and Macklin Mohawks squared off in Edam, with the home team coming away with the 8-4 win. The 3 Stars win the series 2-0 and move on to play Shellbrook Elks of the Twin Rivers Hockey League.
Minor Hockey
In the U18 ‘B’ Division, the Biggar/Wilkie National Outlaws are onto the north semi-finals with two very convincing wins over the Shellbrook Elks (10-1 and 13-0). They will square off against an undetermined opponent.
Also, in the ‘B’ Division, the Unity Lazers played the Humboldt Broncos in Round 1, winning by scores of 4-2 and 5-4. They moved on to play the Waldheim Outlaws, with game 1 going to the Outlaws (7-4).
In the ‘D’ Division, the Kerrobert Rage will play the Paradise Hill Hawks in the north semi-final, with the Rage’s home game on March 1 at 7:30 p.m. Also, in ‘D’, the Macklin Mohawks played the Lashburn Flyers, winning game 1 with a score of 4-3.
In the U15 ‘B’ Division, the Unity Lazers played the Meadow Lake Broncos in Round 1, with the Lazers winning 5-1. Game 2 was played on Feb. 15, with results unavailable at the time of press.
In the ‘C’ Division, the Biggar/Wilkie National Outlaws played the Maidstone Jets in Round 1, losing by scores of 19-0 and 8-3.
In the ‘D’ Division, the Dodsland Stars played the Clavet Cougars in Round 1, losing by scores of 10-6.
In the U13 ‘B’ Division, the Biggar/Wilkie National Outlaws played the Rose Valley Rams in Round 2, tying both games 7-7 and 5-5. The National Outlaws prevailed 1-0 in the 10-minute Game 3 mini-game. They move on to play the winner of the Kindersley Klippers and the Meadow Lake Stampeders.
In the ‘C’ Division, the Unity Lazers played the Lashburn Flyers in Round 1, winning by scores of 4-2 and 9-4. Round 2 saw them face the Dundurn Wolfpack, with 8-3 and 4-2 victories. They now move on to the north semi-finals against an undetermined opponent.
In the ‘D’ Division, the Dodsland Stars played the Edam 3 Stars, with the Stars winning 15-2 and 13-3.
