UNITY -- Even before the civic election polls open, the Town of Unity is welcoming acclaimed mayor, Bob Abel. However, there are five seats available for town council. Mayor Abel and the candidates took some time to introduce themselves to the residents of Unity.
Acclaimed Mayor Bob Abel
I would like to introduce myself to the residents of Unity as I have been given the opportunity to serve as your mayor.
My wife, Donna, and I have three grown children and have called Unity home for nearly 30 years. I recently retired, allowing me to dedicate my time and energy to serve the residents of Unity. Although I am new to the role of Mayor, this will be my third term on Town Council.
Over the course of my 40-year career in agri-business, I gained several valuable skills that will contribute to the success of our Council and community. My experience includes working with the public and staff, building relationships, budgets, dealing with shareholders and equity partners, and making business decisions. I can work with others that will benefit the collective, which will be an asset in my role as Mayor.
Your new Mayor, Town Council and Town Management will build a four-year plan to guide our work, involving the community in making these decisions. We will review all divisions within the Town of Unity, such as revenues and expenses, and make decisions based on our findings. Our council will keep taxpayers better informed on those decisions and future plans for our community, with a goal of transparency and openness at the forefront of this work.

I am Chris Halter, a passionate advocate for change, dedicated to family, faith, business growth, improving our quality of life and accountability. With a proven track record over the past two years on the council, I am ready to leverage my professional skills in Corporate and Regulatory Risk Management, as well as my understanding of Regulatory and Legislative processes and Project and Business Management, to create a brighter tomorrow for everyone.

Brett Lang
My name is Brett Lang, and I am seeking your vote for town council. I grew up in Unity and have lived here most of my life. As most do, I left town after graduation and made the easy decision to return with my wife after the birth of our daughter Livia. She’s 12 and loves school sports. My wife Dana works at the Dental clinic.
I decided to run for council for a few reasons. I currently own two businesses and a carwash in Unity. I believe business owners are underrepresented by the town council. I will be a voice and champion for the locally owned businesses. I believe if you want to affect change, you need to be part of the solution by taking action.
I am prepared for the challenge ahead as a new member of council. I will try my best to make positive changes for our community with fresh perspectives and ideas from a business owners’ standpoint.

Chris Lefebvre
Hello! My name is Chris Lefebvre.
I’ve called Unity home for 17 years and am grateful to have raised my three kids here (22, 20 and 17). I’ve been a soccer and football coach, served in the Fire Department for 13 years, and am a career Class 1 driver currently delivering petroleum to local farmers.
I’m looking forward to the chance to serve our community in a new capacity, offering a different perspective. I’d be honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility to positively impacting our town, to strive for further transparency and accountability, and to encourage engagement between the town council and those it serves. Curtis McLean
For those of you that don’t know me my name is Curtis McLean. I have served as town councilor for the past two terms and am seeking re-election.
I have been a part of this wonderful community for 51 years. I grew up as part of this town and would love to see it grow bigger and better than it currently is.
My wife, Michelle, was raised in nearby Senlac and is the principal at Lakeview Colony School.
Together we have raised three children in the town. All my children have participated in many activities the community offers like hockey, figure skating, baseball, softball, dance and voice. My oldest son, Easton, is currently selling vehicles in Meadow Lake. My middle daughter Devyn is in her third year of study at the University of Saskatchewan in the college of kinesiology with plans to pursue her chiropractic degree. My youngest daughter, Avyne will graduate this coming June.
The reason I am seeking re-election for a third term is because I want to have a voice for the people of Unity and to make Unity a place where people want to raise a family and call home.
Ryan Sernecky
My name is Ryan Sernecky, and I am seeking your vote for re-election for town council. I have been a long-time resident of Unity. My wife and I, along with our family, are proud to call Unity our home. I am currently employed at SaskEnergy as a Control Technician.
I am running for town council because I am passionate about making a positive impact within our community. I believe in transparency, accountability and making decisions that reflect the needs and values of our community. I have a background in supervision, long-term planning, as well as project management.
I am dedicated to working with the town to address any issues that will need to be done in the future. Please consider me as a candidate to represent the people of Unity.

Hi, I'm Darryl Stubbs, and I’m excited to bring my passion for our community and a fresh perspective to the Unity Town Council. My journey here has been shaped by working with local businesses and volunteering alongside fellow community members, and I’ve always believed in the power of collective effort to create meaningful change.
As a potential council member, I would bring a fresh perspective. My background in logistics, emergency services and construction has equipped me with a forward-thinking approach that can help tackle challenges more effectively.
I firmly believe in open communication and accountability, ensuring that all council decisions reflect the voice and best interests of our residents. This will foster a stronger sense of community by engaging with residents, understanding their concerns and find practical solutions.
I’m dedicated to implementing sustainable practices within our town ensuring a prosperous future for generations to come. Together, we can create a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking community.
Brent Weber
Hi, I’m Brent Weber, and I’m seeking your vote for re-election. I’ve lived in Unity for the larger part of my life, raising a family here, and now own and operate Mayhem Hydro Vac. Before becoming a councillor, I worked for the Town as a seasonal labourer. I also served on the local school board.
I’ve served three terms on Town Council and worked on many projects, including the Community Centre, a new swimming pool, and most recently, First Avenue project. Waste water management and water treatment are some of the future priorities. I also served on the Recreation Committee, Regional Park Committee and Public Works.
For the past 11 years, I’ve enjoyed the job – planning local improvements, listening to the residents, trying to take a positive approach where we share information and ideas.
I’d love to see old infrastructure replaced, roads and sidewalks upgraded. Unfortunately, most issues require a big budget. But if we work together, get some additional support, we can improve the Town and the quality of life for everyone here.
