A fight for the puck leaves Daxon L’Heureux of the Unity Lazers to fend for himself against three Rage defensive players during the Jan. 12 game.

UNITY – The U18 Unity Lazers welcomed the KDL Rage to the Unity Community Centre Jan. 12, where the teams both brought the heat.

Within the first 3.5 minutes of the first period, Taylor Neumeier scored on Unity goalie Lennon Crier, giving the Rage the lead. The remainder of the period was uneventful until the last minute, when Rage players Ryken Endicott, Brady Cairns and Lazer Kellen Headrick started to throw fists, putting Endicott into the box for four minutes with a head contact double minor penalty and Headrick with a two-minute rough minor penalty.

The first half of the second period was a lot of back and forth between the teams, where Unity players Dane Rewerts found himself in the penalty box, only to be shortly joined by Daxon L’Heureux. With a little more than eight minutes left, Connor Ralston and Dawson Grant teamed up with L’Heureux putting the puck into the net. With the added fuel of a goal on the board, it did not take long for Unity to add another, this time by Dominic Sieben with assistance from Kai Riou.

With the score at 2-1 for Unity, the final period started off with another goal within 74 seconds of the puck drop from Ralston. Another fight broke out, this time between Auston Layton of the Rage and Seiben of the Lazers.

The game ended with a 3-1 win for the Lazers, leaving them with a 7-6-1 record and currently in third place in the standings. The KDL Rage are now in fourth place, with a 5-7-3 record. The Rage will play the first-place contenders, the Macklin Mohawks, in Macklin on Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. while the Lazers’ next game will be in Leader against the Eston Ramblers on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
