Members of the U18 Lazers provincial team remove their helmets for the singing of O Canada at the opening game of their provincials, in Unity, Jan. 20.

Ending their provincial run early were the U18 Unity Lazers. The Lazers had won their first first-round game against the Shellbrook Elks at home, Jan. 20. On the road for the second game, Jan. 27 saw the series tied with a 5-2 victory by the Elks, followed by the third mini-game which the Elks also won, 2-0, eliminating the Lazers from provincial competition.

The U13 Lazers played their first C provincial game Jan. 26 in Neilburg, losing 5-2 to the Maidstone Jets. They are in a must-win situation for their second game, in Unity, Feb. 4, starting at 2:15 p.m. A supportive hometown crowd in the stands would be appreciated by the youngsters.

In U15 B competition the Lazers host the La Ronge Ice Wolves Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. in the first game of that series.

The U13 Kerrobert Tigers started their provincials, in the D category, with a 10-5 win at home over the Whitefish Flyers of Big River First Nation, Jan. 27. They travel north for their second – and third if necessary – game this weekend.

Results for the U13 Macklin Mohawks’ first game, also playing in D, were not available in time for print deadlines, but their second game of the series against the Edam 3 Stars will be in Macklin Feb. 3 at 5:00 p.m.

The U18 Macklin Mohawks don’t start their provincials until Feb. 11, playing the Jets in Maidstone.

The U18 and the U15 Kerrobert Tigers haven’t seen any action yet either, with both advancing directly to their provincial quarter-finals.

The Wilkie Outlaws kick off their Senior C provincial quest with a home game against the Porcupine Plain Blues, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m., followed by away games Feb. 4 and 11 in the best-of-three series.
