U19 Unity Panthers took home the bronze medals from the U19 B provincial tournament held in Battleford.

UNITY – The U19 B provincial tournament was held in Battleford July 12-14, where the Unity Panthers solidified their spot as third best in the province.

Coach Pat Risling said the girls played four round robin games, winning their first two games against the Battleford Bandits and the Saskatoon Selects Mavericks on the first day. The team had some difficulty pulling ahead in their next two games against the Lakeland Blaze and the Regina Riot.

With a 2-2 record, the Panthers placed second in the round robin where they were matched with the third seed, the Battleford Bandits.

Unlike their first game, the Panthers were unable to secure the win, automatically naming them as the bronze medalists.

“The girls played well all season long, but especially at the tournament. The Bandits were by far our toughest team,” said Risling.

Although the rain dampened the diamonds on Friday, the Town of Battleford staff were quick to get them back in playing shape.

With the team losing at least three graduating players, Risling is excited to a bigger team next year.
