Wilkie recreation director updates on Wilkie pool opening and pool project fundraising

Wilkie pool problems appear to be over and the recreation venue is set to open for the season on June 30

WILKIE — After an earlier report stating, the Wilkie Pool was forced to open a little later than expected due to a mechanical issu, it is being reported the situation is now resolved.

“Repairs were completed on the pool June 26 and 27," says Recreation Director Laurie Fenrich.

"We will have everything back up and running June 28 and hope to open Friday, June 30, night."

Fenrich also adds that revenue from the June 17 fundraising event in Wilkie will be over $23,000. This brings their total raised for the new pool project to almost $170,000.

“We need another approximately $545,000. New pool construction is set to begin in the fall of 2024. “

In a Jan. 31 story on SASKTODAY.ca, it was stated the community of Wilkie needs to add $713,729 to construct the $2.6M facility to replace the aging existing pool. This story also notes that half of that amount needs to be raised in 2023 and the other half in 2024 to fulfil grant requirements.
