World Day of Prayer service held in Wilkie

Wilkie's CWL organizes the World Day of Prayer service.

WILKIE - This year, World Day of Prayer service was held at Bethany Assisted Living in Wilkie, and organized by the St. James CWL of Wilkie, on March 7.

World Day of Prayer (WDP) is an international ecumenical Christian laywomen’s initiative celebrated in over 170 countries. The theme this year was “I Made You Wonderful,” which was written by the women of Cook Islands. The writing committee for next year will be women of Nigeria.

The WDP 2025 Artwork – “Wonderfully Made” by Tarani Napa and Tevairangi Napa, a mother/daughter team, draws attention to the stories of three women shared in the service. The artists beautifully represent the theme of weaving by including hats worn to church services. The mighty coconut tree stands tall, a symbol of strength and goodness.

This artwork, as well as the flag of Cook Islands, was painted by Helen Miller of Wilkie, who co-ordinated the service. This was on display at the service, along with a patchwork quilted table runner and blanket by Rose Reiniger, sea shells, a woven straw hat, flowers, and the Bible open to Psalm 139.

Attendees were given the opportunity to support World Day of Prayer itself and the WDP grant programs by donation. World Day of Prayer grant recipients for 2023-24 were throughout Canada, DR Congo, Kenya, Philippines, Malawi, Guatemala and Cuba.

Following the service, Bethany staff served coffee and tea, along with lime cookies, a treat in the Cook Islands, made by the kitchen staff at Bethany.
