KERROBERT – One young bronc rider has been making a name for himself throughout the rodeo circuits, with no signs of slowing down.
Kaden Cholin, a 17-year-old teen from Kerrobert, said he grew up around horses, but it was when he was helping break a mare that he became interested in rodeo event.
“I got on the unbroke mare, and she started to buck. I was hooked after that,” he said.
In just a short time, Cholin has been able to participate in various rodeos near Whitewood, Saskatoon and Lac la Biché, Alta., making friends of different skill levels along the way.
Cholin placed first at the Billy McDonald open rodeo in Lac la Biché, which has been his biggest highlight so far. He also placed third in the Kakeyow Cowboys Rodeo Association (KCRA) Finals in September.
Parents, Dan and Annie, have been supportive of their son throughout his wild career choice.
“They are proud of me even though they say it is nerve racking to watch, especially when I am on a rank horse,” said the teen.
Cholin hopes to improve on his skills over the next few years so he can join a notable rodeo circuit such as the Canadian Cowboys Association and possibly make a career after high school graduation.
