With heavy hearts the family of the late Peter Negraeff of Canora announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the age of 63 years.
Pete was born in Canora on August 26, 1961, a precious son to Henry (Hank) and Doris Negraeff (Maloff) and little brother for sisters, Patricia and Dianne. Raised on the farm, Pete was an active little boy full of joy and mischief and loved being surrounded by 2 doting sisters, with lots of cousins to visit with every weekend. He was happy to start school in Canora at the age of 6 and made friends easily with his cheery smile and easy-going personality.
He attended Canora Elementary, Junior, and High Schools graduating from Grade 12 in 1979. As a young man, he began his working career pumping gas at the Canora Gulf Gas Station from 1975 - 1979. After graduating High School, Pete started his Automotive career at the Kmart Service Center in Yorkton, first as a service writer, then as the manager. After a few years, he found a job with the Canora Central Motors/Key Chev group which he would love for the next 42 years. Starting as a parts person and service advisor, he wrote his Journeymans Partsperson Ticket and got his Interprovincial Ticket in 1998. He became Parts Manager for Canora Central Motors in 1996 and later when Canora closed their operations he moved to the Key Chev Dealership in Yorkton, where he remained parts manager until the present day.
Peter met Lorie Taylor in March of 1979, and they would spend the next 45 wonderful years loving each other every single day. They married January 13, 1981, and as well as gaining a wife Peter soon realised, he gained a whole other family with the Taylor Clan. Peter and Lorie lived for a short time in Yorkton then moved to Peter's grandparents’ family farm in 1981. Peter and Lorie began a remodelling project on the farm, and they built their family home as well as continuing to work full time and operate the family farm. In 2012, Peter and Lorie moved into their present home in Canora.
Fun was also high on their agenda which usually consisted of camping and fishing in the summer, and skidooing in the winter. At the top of Pete's list was family visits, and more weekends than not they could be found visiting sisters, in-laws, cousins or friends who were like family to him.
In 1986, Peter and Lorie would welcome their first son, Andrew followed by Elliot in 1990 and Jeremy in 1996 to create their family. He considered the boys he raised into wonderful young men to be the greatest accomplishment of his life. With the addition of Krystal to our family, we were blessed beyond belief to welcome Charlotte and Cameron as beloved grandchildren.
As well as a devoted family man, Pete was well known for his giving spirit and cheerful laugh. Always a joker, he loved to make people laugh and could be counted on the have a humorous remark or silly gesture to bring a smile to the people around him. He could always be counted on to lend a hand in whatever someone needed help with and was the first one there and the last one to leave when a job was being done. Countless family and friends benefitted greatly from this generous attitude.
Peter was predeceased by his loving parents Henry (Hank) Negraeff in 2009 and Doris Negraeff in 2018; brother-in-law, Sam Mostowchuk in 2017; and mother-in-law, Connie Taylor in 2021.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Lorie; sons, Andrew (Krystal) of Brandon, MB, Elliot of Langenburg, SK, and Jeremy of Canora, SK; his grandchildren, Charlotte and Cameron; and his sisters, Pat (Bill) Holowatiuk and Dianne (Sam) Mostowchuk. Just as important to him were his in-laws, Linton Taylor, Sandy (Dale) Kotzer, Rob (Heather) Taylor, Rick (Rhea) Taylor and Rod (Steph) Taylor, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home with Tricia Challoner officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
