Norine Lee-Ann Stein (Holmes): 1958 – 2024

It is with saddened hearts that our family shares with you the sudden passing of Norine – our beloved wife and mother. Norine passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Regina General Hospital surrounded by her loving husband and sons.
Norine will be dearly missed by her husband Scott; their sons, Rayce and Jordan (Tia); brothers-in-law, David Widenmaier (Marj), Rod Stein (Joan); sisters-in-law, Ruth Stein and Trish (Bob) Duncan; as well as her many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Norine is predeceased by their infant son Karr; her parents, Ray and Mick Holmes; her sister Gwen Widenmaier; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gordon and Gustie Stein; brother-in-law Raymond Stein and several loved aunts and uncles and a nephew.

Norine was born in Oxbow on October 16, 1958, just 18 months after her sister, Gwen. She attended Frobisher School, Bienfait School and the Estevan Comprehensive School. While in high school she met Scott and they have been together ever since, 50 years of friendship and raising their family through many ups and downs of life.  Everyone knew if they needed to find Norine, she would be in one of two places….in the basement with her Mom doing ceramics or with her sister, Gwen and nephew, DJ. After finishing high school, she lived with her Auntie Dee and Uncle Bob in Regina where she received her hairdressing diploma, and then she began working in Estevan at the Blue Orchid in the mall. Growing up Norine was always surrounded by lots of family, grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins and didn’t move out until she got married to Scott in 1993. If you had the opportunity to have Norine style your hair, you stayed there for decades – and many of your family members did, too! She left a legacy of friendships with everyone she encountered in her salon chair. And even when she decided to be a stay-at-home mom, she managed to talk Scott into building her a salon in the garage and her most faithful customers were still coming to get their hair done up until she went into the hospital.

Norine also supported Scott in his business, she personally travelled all over the countryside with Scott when he would have to go out and check different things at the shop or at the oil well sites.

Norine loved to travel! She had been to Hawaii several times and made a couple trips to Europe with Jordan where he played hockey on the Calgary/Canmore Hockey Team. Her trips didn’t have to be very far either – Minot was a welcomed get away for her as well!

Norine made time to attend all her sons’ activities, whether it be at school, the baseball diamond or the freezing cold hockey rinks! She was there, bringing goodies and cheering on her boys and making friends with the parents and kids!

Norine also served people at her church – literally! She was a church hostess there and made time to help with potlucks, banquets, funeral lunches and BBQ’s. She was always there until the cleanup was done and often recruited her husband and boys to help!

Norine loved being a mom – her boys have said “She was the most amazing mom anyone could ask for. She was resilient and always fought for her family!” Her strength of character and quick wit was well known by all who knew her. We cannot forget Norine’s love for animals! She definitely loved her dogs! Even when she didn’t want to clean up after them anymore, they stole her heart and brought her much companionship. She will be cherished in the hearts of so many lives that she has touched!

Please keep the Stein family in your prayers – that God’s peace would be evident, that grief would be manageable and that hope for the future would be tangible!

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Prabhu and the staff at the Estevan Hospital and also the staff at Regina General Hospital. We appreciate the care that was given to Norine.
