Patsy Lou Pantazopoulos (née Thompson) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Calgary, Alberta on the 27th of January, 2025.
Born October 4th, 1946 in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, Patsy and her family moved throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta, following her father’s career. While living in North Battleford, a blind date led to a love story: her 50-year marriage to George that stood the test of time and remains an inspiration to us all.
Along with their two sons, the couple lived many places across Canada, including New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and abroad in Athens, Greece. Patsy embraced Greek culture wholeheartedly — especially the food, as she was an incredible cook. This small-town Saskatchewan girl was just as at home in Greece as she was in Canada, driving the bustling streets of Athens, enjoying the Aegean Sea, or heading out for an evening of music, food and dance with friends and family. She also learned to read, write and speak the Greek language.
After leaving Greece, the family settled in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where she successfully managed several businesses, all while ensuring her family was cared for with unwavering love and devotion. Later in life, she and George moved to Calgary to be closer to their boys and extended family.
Patsy's love for her family was complete and absolute. She cherished nothing more than spending time as a family, sharing meals, telling stories, or simply laughing together. Her smile, her laughter, and the joy she brought to those around her will be deeply missed. Patsy had a remarkable gift: she could walk into a room full of strangers and leave having made new friends — a true testament to her warm and loving nature.
Over the past 25 years Patsy faced numerous health challenges, including a courageous battle with breast cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and countless other ailments. Despite tremendous odds, she never backed down. She fought with extraordinary strength and determination, always focusing on the blessings in her life and drawing strength from her family.
Patsy is survived by her devoted and loving husband of over 50 years, Dr. George Pantazopoulos, and her two beloved sons (her “babies”), Stelios (Tami) and John (Stacey). Her love for her three grandchildren Alesasia, Nicholas and Noah was boundless, and she will remain forever in their hearts. She will also be missed by her siblings and their families Robert and Iris Thompson and Barb Thompson.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff of Bow Crest Nursing Home, where Patsy lived for the past ten years, as well as her many caring companions. Their kindness and compassionate care made them a second family to her, and we are forever grateful.
Patsy will be laid to rest at Eden Brook Funeral Home and Cemetery following a private family service.
A Celebration of Life will be held in late spring, where friends and family can gather to share stories and memories of Patsy. Please send an email to us at [email protected] so that we can forward details when they are available.
