Jerry Stefanyshyn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Stefanyshyn, who died peacefully on December 10, 2024 in the Palliative Care Unit at Preeceville Hospital.  Jerry was born on July 10, 1948, to Mike and Stella (Shalansky) Stefanyshyn.  His family farmed in the Preeceville area and Jerry graduated from Preeceville High School in 1968.  In 1969 he married Carol Mattison and they had two children, Sara and Jared.  The marriage eventually ended but they remained good friends to the end.

In January, 1969, Jerry joined the Regina Police Service.  He served as a member until his retirement in 1994. During his 25 years of service, he was the youngest Constable to be promoted to Sergeant. At his 20-year anniversary he was presented a medal by the Lt. Governor. He retired from the RPS at the age of 45 as Superintendent, Investigative Service Division. Many of the people he met during his career ended up being life long friends. After his retirement he bought HouseMaster, a home inspection business, to Regina. The knowledge he had gained over the years helped him build a successful business from the ground up.

At the age of 55, Jerry suffered a stroke. After his stroke, his strength and determination allowed him to become very self-sufficient, despite the doctor’s predictions. Nothing slowed him down and nothing would get past him as he continued to be sharp and quick witted. He always said he “had half a brain” after his stroke but was able to accomplish many difficult things despite his daily challenges.

During his retirement years he enjoyed hunting, checking his trail cameras, coffee with friends and family, and his “5 o’clock rum” at Nelson Lake. He was most proud of his grandchildren and was happy he was able to watch them grow up. He did something special with each one of them and they will always remember the things he taught them and the adventures they had together. Jerry had a laugh that won’t be forgotten, and one liners like no other. Left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his children, Sara (Todd) McMillan, Jared (Trisha) Stefanyshyn, grandchildren, Addyson, Brynn, Jakob and Riely, special nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends. Jerry loved his family and was sure to let us know that he’d always be with us. Honoring Jerry’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. The family would like to acknowledge the caring and compassionate staff at Preeceville Hospital during Jerry’s final days. Memorial donations may be made to Preeceville Wildlife Federation (c/o Box 711, Preeceville, SK, S0A 3B0) as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be left for the family by visiting Jerry’s tribute page at preecevillefuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
