SCHMIESS

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Dolores Mary Schmiess (née: Fedorenko) announce her passing on Friday, March 7th, 2025, at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilf Schmiess; parents, Steve and Tina Fedorenko; sisters, Mabel Mason and Gloria House; parents-in-law, Alex and Bertha Schmiess; sister-in-law, Lavina Farnsworth; and brother-in-law, Gerald Johnston. Dolores will be lovingly remembered by her son, Marlowe (Lil) Schmiess and their children Jayden (Brea) Schmiess, Janelle (Leane) Schmiess, and Jenna (Keith) Sinkewicz; daughter, Melanie (Ray) Woloschuk and their children, Dustin and Dylan; great-grandchildren: Tenley and Abbey Schmiess, Zoe Kesslar and Ashton Wilson, and Eli, Evan and Eddie Sinkewicz; sister-in-law, Fern Johnston; brother-in-law, Ralph (Carol) Schmiess; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dolores was born in Chaplin, Saskatchewan to Steve and Tina Fedorenko on November 19th, 1929. Her early years were spent in Chaplin where they lived above the grocery store they owned. After graduating, she worked in the store and helped her mom raise her sister’s four children after Mabel passed away. Through the years, Dolores cleaned rooms in the Herschel Hotel, worked for CP Rail maintaining the Herschel Station when Wilf was on the road, was a cook in the Ponteix Hospital, worked at Walmart, and volunteered at Providence Place in Moose Jaw, SK for several years.

Dolores married Wilf Schmiess on November 21st, 1955, and they raised their two children in McCann, Robsart, Herschel, Ponteix, and eventually Moose Jaw, SK.

In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed playing piano, gardening, birdwatching, sewing, needlework, reading, and bowling. She especially loved to sit outside around the fire in the evening. She belonged to the Royal Purple and was a member of the Lutheran Church where she loved to sing in the choir. Her sparkling personality, sharp wit and honesty led to many special friendships throughout her life. Dolores loved her family and never failed to send Christmas, Valentines, Easter, Halloween, and birthday gifts to all, much to the delight of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 14th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 15 Paul Drive in Moose Jaw. Pastor Jason Schultz will officiate and interment will take place in Moose Jaw Funeral Home Columbarium. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Dolores’ name may be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
