Merle Carey

It is with great sadness that the family of Merle Marie Carey (nee Mooney), announce her passing on February 15, 2025, at her home in Cold Lake, Alberta.

Merle was 77 years old and will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 56 years, John Carey, her sons Michael (Kelly) Carey, St. Albert, Alberta, and Sean (Gina) Carey, and their children Kaitlyn, Isabella and Alexis, St. Albert, Alberta.  She is also survived by sister in-law June Kuss, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, brother-in-law Allan (Corinne) Carey, Lanigan, Saskatchewan, as well as many friends and extended family members; all of whom will miss her dearly.

Merle was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, on February 28, 1947, to loving parents Walter and Minnie Mooney (nee Gieni).  Merle was a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and spent a long career supporting patients in extended care facilities across Saskatchewan before retiring in 2000.

Merle was a home body who loved the peace and serenity provided by her lake front oasis. She was a wonderful cook and baker who enjoyed spending time outdoors and took great pride in her greenhouse growing a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables every year.  Merle was extremely supportive and proud of her family, including her children and grandchildren.  Her favourite activity was spending quality time with her beloved husband and their dogs Beau, Bella, Sherlock, and Watson.

Merle will be remembered for her warm smile, hearty laugh, and kind heart. She was the heart and soul of our family and will be dearly missed.  At Merle’s request the family will be holding a small celebration of life with immediate family and close friends at a later date.

Merle will remain forever in our hearts. Love always!

In lieu of flowers, if you are so inclined, the family welcomes donations in Merle’s name to be made to a worthy charity of your choosing.
