Terry Bunzenmeyer passed away on April 22, 2025 after a two-year battle with cancer. Terry was born in Yorkton, SK, eldest son of Doreen and Clarence Bunzenmeyer. He joined the Canadian military at the young age of 17 and spent the first ten years of his military career in Victoria, where he fell in love with Vancouver Island and the ocean. He spent his 25 military years split between the army, as part of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and the airforce. He was posted to many parts of the world which enabled him to also travel extensively.

While stationed in Germany, Terry initiated studying for his Bachelor's of Social Work, eventually completing his Master’s degree in Social Work as well. This ignited a passion for learning that he carried for the remainder of his life. He began a second career working in private practice, long term care, and geriatric psychiatry.

He loved and lived life to the fullest. In retirement, he and Iris travelled, golfed, and curled, but above all he was an avid fisherman, spending much time fishing the Salish Sea and the West coast.

Terry leaves to mourn his passing partner and best friend Iris Neumann, daughter Lena (Pieter), sister Karen (Aaron), nephews Chris (Christie), Eric (Lindsay), brother Kerry (Monique), and nephews Zachery and Daniel as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Many thanks to all the staff at the Nanaimo Cancer Clinic and Nanaimo Palliative Care unit. In honour of Terry's memory, donations may be made to the Pacific Salmon Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
