REGINA - The Saskatchewan NDP have confirmed in a news release that Jennifer Bowes, MLA for Saskatoon University, is not seeking re-election.

“It has been a great honour to serve the people of Saskatoon University,” said Bowes in a statement.

“I want to sincerely thank my constituents for placing their trust in me and for allowing me the incredible privilege of advocating on their behalf. While I have made the decision not to run for re-election after considerable deliberation and with mixed emotions, I look forward to continuing to serve the remainder of my term. I will continue to devote my remaining time as the MLA for Saskatoon University pushing for a just and equitable province for all Saskatchewan people. And then I’ll look forward to a new set of adventures with my wonderful partner.”

Bowes, who was in her first term, is the second NDP incumbent to announce they are not running again: Cumberland MLA Doyle Vermette has also announced he is not running again.

“I’m very proud of the work that Jennifer has accomplished in her time as MLA for Saskatoon University and look forward to continuing to work with her through the rest of her term,” said leader Carla Beck in a statement. “Over her term, Jennifer has continued to be a fierce advocate for workers here in Saskatchewan through the introduction of her private member’s bill on paid sick leave, her push for fair wages, and continues to push for universal birth control and ensuring women have access to reproductive health services. I am sure she will continue this strong advocacy and I wish her nothing but the best as she explores this next chapter of her life.”
